Vienna and DRC malts bring delicious toasty raisin notes. We infused the cinnamon and coffee both hot side in the underback and cold side in the tank to extract those flavours at different temperatures and really help layer them in. Two different blends of coffee, roasted by local heroes Anonymous, were selected to add depth of flavour and aroma to this seasonal treat.

What types of beer are available?

Santa has selected an amazing range of locally brewed Cask Ale and Craft Beer for you to try.

Cask Ale or ‘Real Ale’ is the traditional form of British Beer. It is a “living” product that continues to ferment in the cask until it is served and according to CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, it represents the “pinnacle of brewing art”, critics would categorize it as “flat & warm”!

The term Craft Beer originated in the USA. Mass-produced bland lager led to the growth of small independent brewers being formed to brew beer with great taste. The predominant style was based on India Pale Ale (IPA) originating from England but these new brewers experimented by adding loads more hops and a range of other ingredients. More recently, they have similarly experimented with other traditional beer styles.  They coined the term ‘craft beer’ and defined it as beer brewed traditionally by small independent brewers. Craft beer is force carbonated and served chilled – “cold & fizzy”.

To help you choose your beer we have categorized our “Cask Ale” and “Craft Beer” as shown below:

Lager
Lager is a fizzy beer served chilled that has a reputation, at least amongst beer nerds, for lacking taste. We have selected a Craft Lager for the festival that shows that this doesn’t have to be the case! Perfect for those who prefer a chilled fizzy drink. Real ale drinkers should try it to see how good lager can be.

Check out our Craft Lagers. Lager is not available as a Cask Ale

Pales & IPAs
India Pale Ale was first brewed for the colonial market and is strong in alcohol and high in hops to survive the sea journey. Look for juicy malt, citrus fruit and a big spicy, peppery bitter hop character, with strengths of 4% upwards.

Golden Ale was developed in the 1980s as a lower strength refreshing summer drink to tempt lager drinkers. Golden ales are lighter hopped and hence less bitter that IPAs.

Check out our Cask Pales and Craft Pales.

Bitters
These are the traditional English beer style. Look for a spicy, peppery and grassy hop character, a powerful bitterness, tangy fruit and juicy, and nutty malt.

Best Bitters are stronger than Bitters and the malt and fruit character tends to dominate.

Check out our Cask Bitters and Craft Bitters.

Milds & Stouts
Mild is the oldest beer style in the country but out of fashion until recently. It has a taste all its own. Look for chocolate, fruity and nutty flavours. If you have never had Mild before, give it a try!

Stouts have a profound dark and roasted malt character with raisin and sultana fruit, espresso or cappuccino coffee, liquorice and molasses, all underscored by a bittersweet taste.

Check out our Cask Darks and Craft Darks.

Sours
Sour beer is a type of beer that has an intentionally tart, sour, or acidic taste. It’s made using wild yeasts or acid-producing bacteria. Fruit can be added to sour beers to make them taste more tart. The flavor of sour beer can range from light and fruity to intensely sour, and it can also include familiar beer flavors like malts and hops.

Check out our  Craft Sours.

We also have Alcohol-Free (AF) and Gluten-Free (GF) beers available.

Some of our beers are suitable for  Vegans (Vg). Check out our  Vegan Cask Ales and  Vegan Craft Beers.

Lost parents

Parents are responsible for the supervision of their children at all times.

If a child is found without a parent, volunteers will calmly escort the child to the ticket desk, which serves as the designated safe area.

Efforts will be made to contact the parent using the information on the child’s wristband, or announcements may be made over the event’s PA system.

A copy of our Safeguarding policy and contact details for our Designated Safeguarding Officer(DSO) is available here.

Is it safe and secure?

Subject to Change?

The festival programme is subject to change without notice. The organisers accept no responsibility if, for example, an act fails to attend or a particular beer or cider is not available.

If the event has to be canceled, all monies paid for advance tickets and beer tokens will be fully refunded by our ticketing partner, Ticket Source.

Volunteer

Burghfest would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. We  have roles suitable for everyone1 including bar-staff, ambassadors, ticket desk staff and set-up/tear-down crew.

To make sure we get the coverage we need and to also ensure the volunteers get to enjoy the festival, staffing is allocated in 4-hour shifts.

We’re using SignUp.com to manage this. Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

  1. Go to our SignUp page  on SignUp.com
  2. Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.
  3. Sign up! It’s Easy – you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.com.

All volunteers receive a meal voucher, drink tokens and free admission on the day(s) of their shift(s) but more importantly have great fun and the satisfaction of giving back to the local community.

If you are a local community group that can provide volunteers, and in return raise money for your organisation, check out the Burghfield Santa’s Affiliate programme.

1Volunteers under 18 must have written parental consent to participate in the event. They will be assigned age-appropriate roles and supervised by a responsible adult. For a copy of our Safeguarding policy please email admin@burghfieldsantas.org.uk.

Burghfield Santas

Burghfield Santas is a group of local residents that create fun events in the RG7 community to raise money for local charities.

It all started with Santa Cruise 20 years ago when a group of mates went out for a few drinks after making and wrapping many presents, we wore our red suits and raised a little money for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance .

We did this again and again many times and somewhere along the way we realised that charity fund raising is not just for Christmas but Easter too. The Bunny Hop was born, closely followed by Burghfest which satisfied our need for good music, good company and good local beer.

The next challenge was to return racing to the historical home of the Auclum Hill Climb, so in 2017 we launched the annual Box Kart Bash.

2018,  saw the launch of  The Bulging Sack, our very own Pop Up Pub. This came to its own in 2020 when due to the coronavirus our major events were canceled.  It opened Friday and Saturday evenings in the summer and raised almost £10,000 for Thames Valley Air Ambulance as well as providing a chance for the community to get together.

In 2024 we raised £26,193 for Thames Valley Air Ambulance and over £13,000 for other local groups and charities through our Do Your Bit scheme.
